Dr. Cummings-Hurst was born and raised in the Seattle area of Washington state. She received her DVM from Washington State University in 2008, then went on to complete a private practice internship at Willamette Valley Equine Medical and Surgical Center in northwestern Oregon. Craving warmer weather, she moved to New Mexico in 2009 where she worked as a mixed animal practitioner for 4 years. During this time, Dr. Cummings-Hurst developed a particular enjoyment for small animal medicine and decided to focus her time in this area. She joined Manzano Animal Clinic in 2016. Dr. Cummings-Hurst and her husband share their home with Rupert, a Welsh Corgi mix. She lost her beloved British Shorthair cat, Penelope, at the age of 21 after adopting her 11 years prior. She was a perfect little lady and left large paw-prints to fill! When not working, she enjoys riding and training her horse Ophelia in dressage, trail riding and hiking with her husband, spending time with Rupert, singing and playing the piano. Some of her favorite things about veterinary medicine are client education, preventative care, and chronic disease management.
